Green moves: Climateworks, Friends of the EarthBY ELIZABETH FRY | THURSDAY, 1 MAY 2025 3:35PMClimateworks has added a head of Australia programs, while Friends of the Earth have a new chief executive. Climateworks Centre has welcomed Erwin Jackson to its executive leadership team as the head of Australia programs. He joins the organisation - that works to accelerate the transition to net zero emissions - from the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) where he served as managing director of policy. Jackson has worked at IGCC for the last seven years, connecting Australia's $5 trillion investment sector to climate policy-making. He previously worked at the Climate Institute for 11 years most recently as the deputy chief executive. In that role, he not only developed policy but actively managed relationships with senior business, community and political leaders in Australia and offshore. He has served as a climate change manager at the Australian Conservation Foundation and spent many years at Greenpeace researching, writing, fundraising, campaigning and coordinating projects. Climateworks called Jackson one of Australia's most respected climate policy analysts and advocates, bringing over 35 years of experience across government, business and the not-for-profit sector. Separately, Asad Rehman has joined Friends of the Earth as its new chief executive. "Asad brings with him nearly four decades of experience in campaigning for environmental, social and racial justice, with a deep understanding of how these struggles are inextricably linked," the activist organisation said. "With 11 of these years previously spent with Friends of the Earth, we are excited to welcome Asad back." Currently serving as executive director for the anti-poverty and social justice charity War on Want, Rehman will start the new job in August 2025, taking over from interim chief executive Jamie Peters. Friends of the Earth acknowledged Peters' fantastic leadership over the last year, ensuring Friends of the Earth remained on the frontlines to support communities fighting for climate justice. Early in his career, Rehman was a parliamentary assistant in the UK House of Commons and a campaign manager for Amnesty International. Related News |
